What not to do when you’re planning your kitchen remodel.
People always seem to talk about tips on how to remodel your kitchen. Yet no one addresses the planning mistakes made every day. Here’s a few planning mistakes you do not want to happen to you.
Lighting can make, or break, your kitchen remodel. Who cares if it looks good if you cant even see it? One of the biggest mistakes isn’t just a poor lighting layout, but poor lighting selections. It’s like people run out of energy by the time they choose the lighting for their kitchen remodel. Choose your lighting carefully because you can find very good looking fixtures that won’t break the bank. You might even want to think about hiring a professional who understands how to light a kitchen.
#2. Choosing Appliances
It’s easy to get wrapped up in fancy brand name appliances. Don’t try to buy the most expensive, newest product. Just remember to buy what you need for you lifestyle. Everyone loves a good cook-top and oven but most of us do not need 6 burners. Assess your needs and decide accordingly, you may not need everything you want.
One of the most important things you can do for your kitchen remodel is to plan your tile layouts for the backsplash. Where do you want the transitions and the cuts? Where will the plugs go in relation to the design in the backsplash? Where will the uppers end? Where will the lowers end? Will you need bar liners to finish off the ends? There are a lot of details that shouldn’t be overlooked. Make sure you plan accordingly.
Flooring is such an important design element. Too many people decide to save money on this aspect of a kitchen remodel. I wouldn’t even recommend thinking about the design details until you have an idea of what you’re looking for in the kitchen floor. It is after all the foundation of the design, and you do not want to rip it out later because it is the wrong color (start from the bottom up, right?).
